As if the endless photo tagging hasn’t created enough fun, (actually the number one activity on the ever growing social network) Facebook just announced new tagging features available immediately. In an announcement on their blog today, September 10, 2009, Facebook announced that a new Twitter like feature using the @ symbol will allow users to now tag each other in status updates and other posts as too.
“People often update their status to reflect their thoughts and feelings, or to mention things they feel like sharing. Sometimes that includes referencing friends, groups or even events they are attending — for instance, posting “Grabbing lunch with Meredith Chin” or “I’m heading to Starbucks Coffee Company — anyone want some coffee?”. Says Tom Occhino , Facebook Blogger.
Whether people think this is a good move or not, has yet to be seen, but just like pictures, im sure we are all bracing to be tagged in a status update or two that we would rather not be. What’s next? Perhaps tagging people in chat conversations? A “dislike” button? Twitter like Hastags #? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
